10 Move With Balance® online video lessons in English and Spanish

The videos are in English and Spanish. They are self-contained.  You do not need the book Move with Balance®: Healthy Aging Activities for Brain and Body.  But, if you want more in-depth information, I would suggest you get the book in either English or Spanish. The book tells WHY we do each of the 60 exercises and HOW to do each exercise correctly.

Move With Balance® is an award-winning and unique program that I created and taught in Hawaii for 25 years (1994—2017). I recruited fit elders as mentors, and brought them into the schools to work with at-risk children for 1999-2009 (10 years).  Then, I had the fit elder mentors work with frail elders from 2005—2017 (12 years). I decided to spend some time in Cuenca, Ecuador where I started Move With Balance® with the help of a young Ecuadorian student.  I had three programs going when Covid 19 shut everything down.

 

With a grant from the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, I now have made 10 online videos.  So, I basically created 10 approximately one-hour long sessions as if I were teaching 10 classes at the site. It is the exact same format. You can follow along as if you were at the site.

 

You can do the exercises alone, but it is way more fun to do the activities with someone, such as a friend, family member, caregiver, or grandchild. They will act as a mentor.  Everyone will benefit as these exercises are good for everyone!

Each session begins with Warm-Ups, Cross Crawl, and Connect the Circuits.  These exercises go to 19:57 minutes on each video.  Then the exercises are new and different for the rest of each session. It is important to warm up as it will enhance the flow of energy throughout your body and will lengthen contracted muscles. Some new exercises may be repeated during the 10 sessions. You will always be learning something new.  Learning enhances brain function and makes us feel alive and alert. You can PAUSE the video at any point to take more time.
